OGAE Australia Melbourne 2024 Eurovision Preview Party

OGAE Australia

On the 6th of April I attended the OGAE Australia Melbourne 2024 Eurovision Preview Party. There were booths against the walls with flags above them with tables in front of them. There was a split level that just had tables. The stage was in the corner with a screen and the bar had flags wrapped around it. it was located in the Cellar Bar of the Newmarket hotel.

The event started at 7:30pm and went till 11:30pm. and the food at the event was good and people could get drinks and food from the bar with money. The songs played before the event were all Sweden’s song finishing off with Waterloo. The songs were shown in alphabetical order. I left the preview party at 10:40pm.

My costume for this year was inspired by Romania 2013 and It is a black fantasy dress with front lacing, green leaves on the front and a flowy layer to add texture. I wore a red long sleeved layer underneath it for warmth along with full length leggings and black boots and my top layer was a hooded black cloak. I got the nails thumb and little finger on each hand painted black and the pointer, middle and index fingers were navy blue.

The voting period gave us 2 performances from a member singing an English version of Spain’s 2024 song and another song which I don’t know the name of. I had the same problem that I had back in 2022 when it came to finding reception to submit my votes. There was a costume competition, and I was up against 7 people.

    Costumes in the competition
    • a female and a male version of Windows 95 man
    • 2 dressed people dressed as baby Lasagna
    • a group costume of the code from Switzerland of four people
    • the daughter of the Romanian vampire from 2013 (that was mine)

Many people dressed up in current and past costumes which was nice to see. I found myself on table with a couple and another guy and the couple were new to the contest so myself and the guy filled in any gaps when it came to how we saw each song doing at the contest. The two songs that had people come up and dance during the song were the Netherlands and Switzerland which had three of the four members that made up the group costume come on stage. The disco ran from 10:30 to 11:30pm but I didn’t say for it as I had to get home via public transport.
