Rose
I opened my eyes and wondered where the two of us had ended up, because I didn’t recognise the room in which we were lying in. “Yeon are you awake?” he turned his head towards to me and his eyes told me, he knew our location. “Somehow we have travelled back in time” he told me, I heard a door open on my right side and a woman was standing in front of us with a surprised expression.
“Yeon what are you doing back in this time and who is that woman next to you?” she questioned him. “Hong-ju, nice to see you again this is my adopted younger sister Roseia. Rose this is Ryu Hong-ju we grew up together” he introduced us.
“It’s nice to meet you Ryu Hong-ju, are our bodies see through or solid?” I asked her. “They are solid, so please explain what is happening here, as I remember this version of you left 1938 six months ago” she inquired. Yeon answered, “The two of us entered into a ritual to help heal Rose’s very damaged core, so our bodies are in another time.”
She closed her eyes as if sensing something and the next thing she did was walk toward me to place the back of her hand on my forehead. “Something hasn’t agreed with your spirit because you feel too hot.” she continued “Yoo Jae-Yoo please fetch Moo-young and bring him here.”
There was a knock on the door then Moo-young walked in and he had the same surprised expression Ryu Hong-ju had on her face. She directed him to feel my forehead and I heard him say {we need to talk Yeon} directed at my brother. He went over to Yeon, and I saw him visibly sigh with relief when he put his hand to my brother’s forehead.
“Hong-ju can you go find our Yeon and explain the situation as I will need him here to provide grounding energy once her temperature has gone done.” Hong-ju left the room and he continued “Yeon I hope you didn’t contribute to the state of your friend’s core, its full of holes so I can image her physical body has suffered a lot. We will have a talk away from everyone else once your current self comes here.”
Moo-young
Hong-ju and current Yeon entered her room, so I instructed them “Rose needs to be carried to your bathroom. She needs to placed in lukewarm to help reduce her temperature. At fifteen minutes take her out and change her into a light pair of your pj’s Hong-ju. Yeon, I want you to stay next to her to help ground her once she is back in Hong-ju’s bed as her core is very damaged.”
They acknowledged my instructions with a nod of their heads. I left them to have a serious conversation with future Yeon to get the true details on the situation. I led him a private room where no one could eavesdrop.
I sat down facing him “Yeon did you or anyone explain what the healing ritual might entail to Rose?” I asked him in worried tone. He looked at me with an embarrassed expression, “that explains her reaction to the situation in Hong-ju’s room and before you ask she gave me permission to call her Rose. The moment both of you appeared in the room Rose has been feeling overwhelmed, as the last thing she remembered was falling asleep at the office in 2024.”
His response was “oh”, “I am assuming that that the ritual sent you here in order to heal and seal the holes in her core? I will need to assess the full extend of the damage and best way to prepare her core to make this safe for her” I explained.
Yeon raised one of his eyebrows in confusion so I started to chuckle “don’t worry it will all be sorted, let’s focus on step one which is getting her used to this time including clothes and hair. you can make up for not giving her any warning by being more careful and giving her warnings in the future before things happen.”
He froze for a moment “Yeon are you ok?” I asked concerned. He replied, “something is wrong with Rose we need to check on her now.” We ran back to Hong-ju’s room to find her body covered in purple flames.
“Both of you grab one of her hands, concentrate on creating a temporary barrier to contain the flames” I instructed them. I held my breath as they managed to contain her flames before her core took on too much damage. I was afraid of this happening once I saw the extend of all her holes so I addressed Future Yeon “we can’t wait till she wakes up, I need your permission to start the healing ritual. If we lose her core then her physical body will be gone. so do I have your permission to begin?”
“Moo-young you have my permission” he answered. I took another look at Rose to make sure she was safe to move; the barrier covered all the holes and had quenched the flames. “I will need the room you stayed in six months ago; it still retains your familiar energy. She will be in pain during the first stage so have something familiar will help, while I strip her core bare” I told Future Yeon.
“The same room is free and ready to go” we heard as Hong-ju walked into the room, went straight to rose and pick her up. “Lead the way Moo-young” she confidently directed me. We reached the room “please wait here while I get the room set up” I articulated.
When I finished with set up I opened the door, directed Hong-ju to place Rose on the futon then shooed her out. I called out “Both Yeons come inside as I need you for the first stage, Hong-ju please place protective markings outside around the room and wait for my signal before enter this room again.” I used my own blood to place the required markings for inner barrier, the moment I stepped back a visible energy field appeared.
Current Yeon had a confused look on his face so I explained “when you walk through the barrier the outside energy will be stripped from you making it safe for Rose. She will stay asleep, so we only need to worry about her body reacting. I will need you to hold Rose down for this first stage.” The two of them walked through the barrier and I directed them to sit either side of her. Current Yeon’s eyes flicked to the incense holders behind Rose “those will keep her asleep while I work” I explained. “If we are ready and centred, I will begin”
I began by closing my eyes and taking a few deep breaths. I opened my eyes to see three layers full of holes before me, I reached for the top layer, and it started to fall apart in hands. Each bit of energy I grabbed I sent into the universe and soon I reached the middle layer. This one needed a bit more manipulation to leave her core so I was gentle with removing the sections.
The bottom layer fought me the most and her body reacted the most with this one. Both Yeon’s had to double down on their strength to stop her moving, {you need to let go last layer, your host is on her last legs and I promise you will go to someone who needs you. Rose will recover as I’m looking after her so don’t worry} I felt the layer trust me and it decided to let her go.
“now I need each of you to fill two of her holes with your energy, this will become part of her internal life support and will merge into hers so she will always have a part of you” they looked at me to say we are ready “Deep breaths and think about filling your chosen holes with your energy” I said in a calm tone.
I saw their chosen holes fill with amber coloured energy and her body glowed to show her core had accepted it. “Now we need to place a barrier around her core like a bandage, it will dissolve once the core can support itself” I explained. The three of us took a few deep breaths and bandaged the core. “The two of you will be her external life support until the all the holes have been filled so get comfortable” I turned to the future Yeon “you need to careful so let your other self-provide most of the energy. I hope that’s ok with you Yeon?”
Current Yeon answered “Hong-ju explained about how you are no longer immortal and the reason why, so I am happy to provide more of the support.” Suddenly the world started to spin, and two hands grabbed me as the world went dark.
Future Shin-ju
It had been two days since Yeon and Rose went into a deep sleep, I had a gut feeling which wouldn’t leave me alone, so I trusted it. I walked into the ritual room where Hyunuiong was watching over them, my legs took me over to rose, and I lifted up her eyelids to find her eyes clouded over. “Please lift up lord Yeon’s eye lid and check if his eye is clouded over” I asked the old man.
He checked and I gave an audible sigh with his response “No his eyes are normal”, the next thing I did was look down her throat with a light. It was swollen and raw, I wasn’t able to give her hydration the modern way in case it interfered with the ritual. Lord Yeon’s throat was normal, I looked around to find the old man had left the room and he returned with a bowl.
“The bowl is filled with a traditional liquid, when wiped on the lips helps to hydrate a sleeping person. This doesn’t interfere with the ritual, so we are safe to use it” he told. “From what we are observing it seems the ritual is healing the damage from the attack along with the holes in her core. I love her like a daughter even through I’ve only know her for 56 years.” I could see the love in his eyes and the tone of voice that he used when speaking about her. My gut feeling returned letting me know her recovery was going as planned so to not worry and leave it in Lord Yeon’s hands.
Current Yeon
It had been two weeks since Moo-young had done emergency surgery on Rose’s core, my future self and I had stayed by her side for two days. She had been cleared to recover without the two of us, which was good timing as the other me was very close to collapsing. He ended up sleeping for three days in the room next to rose
Flashback
“Is the reason we are no longer immortal because of Ah-eum or her reincarnation?” I asked and he replied “short answer is yes.” I thought about it and it made sense for us stop being immortal once we found our first and only love. “It seems we also gain another sibling, is she like us?” I commented. “She is a nine tailed fox like us and she comes from Australia. The rest of her story will be up to her to tell as I don’t know everything myself” he replied. I trusted the barrier moo-young had put up and called for Hong-ju, “Hong-ju I need you now.”
She entered the room and I pointed towards other me “catch him before he falls over, by the way he is linked to her by a thread so moving him closer to this room might a good idea.” Hong-ju adjusted her position then asked me “can you do this alone for 30 minutes, I want to get some food into him.” I nodded yes then she left the room carrying him.
End of flashback
Moo-young and I were watching over Rose when she opened her eyes, moo-young looked concerned and went right into action.
“Rose, does it hurt anywhere?” {throat – hurts – its – dark}. I could see the effort to talk using her telepathy on her face, “is there a system to let you say yes and no more easily” he asked.
She slowly raised her left arm {yes} then her right arm {no}, “we will use this so save your telepathy as it’s still weak from the surgery. I will explain the situation once I know you are stable so please be patient” he explained. The look she gave him made me laugh out loud, “sorry Rose but you do have the same look of annoyance that I get.”
Moo-young did a few basic tests and found apart from her clouded over eyes and sore throat, her recovery from the surgery was happening as it should. He placed her on vocal and telepathy rest for two weeks, “Yeon come in, I know you are outside, I have a few questions for you” he called out.
“Does something happened to Rose in our future?’ he asked. “She will be attacked by two foxes who place a curse on her eyes and throat, these curses take away her vision and her physical voice. They will also injure her legs so badly, she will have nerve damage and her physical body back in future is in the process of learning to walk again” he replied.
I could see he was trying stop himself from crying which showed me he had formed an attachment to Rose long before the adoption occurred. I stood up, pulled him up and allowed him to cry on my shoulder. He cried for ten minutes and then I could feel his breathing calm down and he let go with an embarrassed expression on his face.
Moo-young told me “Yeon take yourself out of the room so Rose can have some quiet to rest”, his look told me this wasn’t helpful for Rose especially as she couldn’t respond. We left the room and I led him to the training ground in order to release his built up feelings towards this situation.
