Roseia
On the morning of the 8th august I woke up feeling uncomfortable for some reason, Shin-ju asked “what’s wrong Roseia?” Before I could answer I felt a lot of energy come out of my chest, my upper half responded by rising to a sitting position with an audible gasp and my eyes widened.
I fell back into the bed breathing heavily and closing my eyes as the light in the room was too bright. The physical response was a very short moment of time but I felt a barrier pop from around my eyes and my legs. I heard Shin-ju close the curtains and turn the lamp to my left on, then he asked “can you slowly open your eyes please, I have the dimmed the light so it won’t be too bright.”
I slowly opened my eyes to see a room that didn’t scream or hurt my eyes, which was good. He brought out a pocket light, “please look my nose while I shine the light in your eyes to see how well they dilate.” He placed his finger on his nose so I knew where to look, the light was a tiny bit bright but bearable.
He continued with “can you please follow the light with your eyes only, so no moving your head or neck.” It was hard to focus on the light as my eyes weren’t used to focusing on objects and Shin-ju noticed this and stopped the test.
The next thing he said was “I need to test your distance vision so please let me know when my hand gets blurry.” I was able to see clearly until it went further than the length of my pointer finger. It was clear from these tests that a tiny bit of my vision had return but the rest of it was taking longer to come back.
“Now I will check how much feeling has returned with a sharp versus dull sensation test.” he grabbed tweezers out of his bag then said “I will touch your skin with the sharp or dull end of the tweezers, you need to tell me if you can feel it and if its sharp or dull. The first one I’ll do on your arm so you know what it should feel like. Please close your eyes and don’t read my mind while I do the test.”
He lightly touched both ends of the tweezers to my left arm and I was able to identify which one was which. He lifted the covers off my legs then went down to my feet to begin the test. I was able to feel 50% of the touches Shin-ju did on my lower legs, “this is a better result than I had expected with the feeling in your legs. you will need to work on getting the movement back and we will help you with this so don’t worry” he reassured me.
“It seems the enhanced healing marks worked to bring out your fox self, in order to loosen the curses on your eyes and legs. I was surprise by the purple eyes instead of the amber ones I’ve seen from Lord Yeon. Is that normal for you when you go into full nine tailed fox mode?” Shin-ju asked.
I replied “my purple eyes? oh the ancestor spirits granted me them when I was younger” I was interrupted by my stomach making a noise. He laughed and said “I think your stomach wants some real food, so I think you are ready to have light food only.”
I heard him send a text and then Ji-ah came into the bedroom “I started making some lunch when I saw Roseia had woken up and now it’s ready. Shin-ju bundle her up as it’s a bit cold out here.”
He bundled me up in a dressing gown along with grabbing a blanket and Yeon entered the room to pick me up with Shin-ju following with the blanket. I was carried across the living room to the dining room and he placed one of the dining chairs. shin-ju placed the blanket over my legs to keep them warm while I had my first meal in a while.
Ji-ah placed a bowl of Jook which is rice porridge, a small bowl of mul-kimchi and a bowl of Miyeok-guk, seaweed soup in front of me. My mouth started to water but I knew I needed to wait for Lord Yeon to eat first. He took his first mouth full which was the signal for the rest of us to eat and I couldn’t stop a smile from forming on my face after the first mouthful of the Miyeok-guk.
“Since you were found on our doorstep we’ve been addressing you by your first name and I realise we should have asked how old you were to know the right way to address you. What year were you born in?” Ji-ah asked. “Year of the monkey, which makes me 1,302 years old, this makes me second oldest in the room if my maths is correct” I replied.
I heard Shin-ju start to freak as he realised he has been addressing me informally instead of formally and before he could start apologising I stopped him. I said “I give you permission to call me by my first name even in public, but if it makes you feel better you may use my title of Lady Roseia.” His breathing and heart rate went back to normal after I gave him two options of how to address me.
“You are allowed to call me by my first name seeing as there aren’t many nine tailed foxes left in the world and I have a feeling that you won’t be leaving anytime soon. My Daughter has been getting certain feelings since we have known you” Yeon said.
Towards the end of the meal Yeon asked me “Roseia is there someone who you rely on to patch you up when you get injured?” “Lord Yeon I only go to dad if the injury is serious enough, so I try to avoid fights with the jobs that I take on” I replied. “You are more vulnerable so please call for Shin-ju when you need him” Yeon offered in his response.
I was able to finish all the food put in front of me, although it had a side effect of making me feel sleepy and I started to nod off before the meal was done. Yeon picked me up, carried through the living room and the last thing I remembered before I fell asleep was entering his bedroom.
Time skip to a few weeks
Yeon
I walked into my bedroom carrying a tray with simple breakfast of rice porridge, {again?} she sighed and continued {Can a bit of honey be added to give some flavour?} “I will ask Moo-young if honey is allowed on the jook, in the meantime please just eat it as is today.” I bargained with Roseia. {I accept those terms Yeon and you sounded like a real older brother.}
I left the room and headed to the kitchen, where Moo-young was eating a late breakfast. “It’s strange as I am seeing part of myself in her and how she brought out the older brother/ parent in me.”
“Yeon that is a good thing as it sounds likes she hasn’t had it easy since she moved here, this makes me curious about how she lived in Australia. I hope we get to find out and we can find a way to keep her in our little found family” Moo-young said deep in thought. We were taken of out this thought by Ji-ah coming up to us “she is dressed so after I take her to the bathroom, you can head to see the old hag before her session.”
30 minutes later we arrived at the office, I got her wheelchair out off the car and was surprised to find the old man with Roseia in his arms. I was about to carry her chair up the stairs, when he said “Yeon there is a side entrance with a ramp set up to bypass all the stairs in the front entrance.” He lead the way with me pushing the chair and when we got to side entrance, I parked the chair with the brakes on.
The old man placed Roseia in the chair, then I went ahead of them so I could hold the heavy door open. He pushed his daughter inside and transferred her to the couch. After closing the door I sat next to Roseia, as the old hag sat in her normal seat in front of her desk.
Hyunuiong brought over a tray with tea and simple snacks suitable for Roseia and he asked “how did doctor’s appointment go?”
Flashback 10th August
“Good morning Roseia, I have your breakfast her so eat up and remember you have a general practitioner appointment at 10:30am so we need to leave at 9:55am” I reminded her then I added “please let Ji-ah when you are ready to get dressed.”
{thanks for reminding me about the appointment, it’s hard for me to keep track of the days} she said while eating the rice porridge.
At 9:45am Shin-ju arrived at the apartment and we made sure the human version of the events for Roseia’s attack made sense. Ten minutes later we heard {I’m ready} in our minds so Shin-ju grabbed the chair from Ji-ah and the three of us headed to the hospital. we arrived at the hospital, shin-ju signed her in while I sat with Roseia I tapped the side of my head to get her attention.
{remember to use your physical voice when answering the medical staff} I thought and she nodded her head to show she understood. After a ten minute wait the doctor led us to his office and he asked “how many I help you today?” I replied “my sister was attacked two weeks ago by two strong guys, she was strangled so her voice and eyes were directly affected by this.”
Shin-ju took over by saying “the wounds on her lower half were caused by small knives, which left Roseia with no feeling below her waist. I’ve been treating her wounds and its taken two weeks for her to be safely moved. I am a vet by trade so I have enough medical knowledge to treat basic wounds.” “What state were her eyes and voice in when you found her?” the doctor asked. “She wasn’t able to talk and she had temporary blindness, now her voice has returned along with her sight with limitations.”
“I am ready to exam Roseia so can you place her on the table?” the doctor asked. I lifted her on to examination table, while Shin-ju put the pillow behind her head. the doctor put on a pair of gloves and grabbed a pocket light, “Roseia I’m going to check your eyes so the light will be a bit bright are you ready?” he asked her. He checked the dilation of her eyes and how far she could see clearly, which seem a tiny bit further than on the 8th August.
The most important part of the examination was her legs, he started at her feet. “Please let me know when you can feel me touching your body and if it feels dull” he asked. She had regained 52% of her feeling back which showed her fox self was slowly healing the damage.
“Have you been able to walk at all since the attack?” he asked. Shin-ju replied “we haven’t let her try yet to avoid any further injuries and she can weight bear for a very short time.” I transferred Roseia back into her wheelchair while the doctor took off his gloves.
“That’s all I need to check today, there are three tests I can send you get so we know the extend of the damage. Those three are an X-Ray, an ultrasound and MRI and they can be done today in this hospital” the doctor let us know. “are you ok with your brother helping you change or i can get a female staff member to help you. which would you prefer?” the doctor asked her.
“A female member of staff please” Roseia answered. We left the doctor’s office and a female member of staff came up to us and took Roseia away to get changed. For the rest of the morning we waited for her to finished the three tests. The both of us knew she had nerve damage from moo-young’s knowledge. It was important to get a human diagnosis for Roseia to be treated.

“What diagnosis did the doctor give your injuries Roseia?” asked Hyunuiong. “I have nerve damage in my lower half, which will improve with time and rehabilitation because I need to learn how to walk again” I replied. “This means I won’t be able to work for a while mum, I’m sorry”
The old hag looked in my direction and said “Yeon since you haven’t had any jobs recently, would you like to take on the jobs I had saved for her?” “I will think about it” I told her. “The only reason I’m not annoyed by your response Yeon is because I love both of you like my own children in private.” she commented.
“Of course none of this can be said to anyone do you understand?” we nodded to show we understood and I caught sight of the time in my watch and said “We need to leave if we are to make today’s rehabilitation session.” The last thing the old hag said to me was “look after her”, then we left via the side entrance to get back to the car.
Roseia
A few days later on a break between rehabilitation appointments Yeon, Ji-ah and I went out to window shop, so I could get out of the apartment for a bit. Suddenly my stomach decided to make itself known, this made Ji-ah giggle so Yeon said “how does getting lunch at the snail bride’s restaurant sound?” “sounds good to me shall we head to the car?” I said.
Once we got to the restaurant, we were greeted by the snail bride herself “Lord Yeon, Ji-ah and a guest.” Yeon introduced me to her “this is Lady Roseia, she is one of us.” We were taken to one of the private rooms, for me to enter Yeon needed to carry me into the room.
Ji-ah pulled out one of the low chairs while he carefully sat me down allowing my legs to lie straight out in front of me. My wheelchair was folded up and brought in the room then Yeon and Ji-ah sat down. “I gather she knows about our kind by the way she greeted you” I commented.
“When I was getting to know Yeon, she was excited that he brought a human to eat with him” as Ji-ah finished saying this our food arrived. Yeon explained “these dishes should help with the recovery process.” I could sense something extra had been added to our food and I hope it didn’t back fire on us.
Hallway through the meal I started to feel something build up inside me and after five minutes I went into sensory overload with the noises, the lights and smell overwhelming me to the point that I passed out at the table.
When I opened my eyes the world screamed at me, along with an uncomfortable feeling within my body. I didn’t need to wait long as my fox self took over and destabilised my human disguise so my eyes glowed purple, along with my nine tails. My movements became fox-like instead of human so I freaked out when I felt Shin-ju put his weight on me to hold me down.
At the same time he called out “Lord Yeon need help here” and I heard footsteps, then both sides of my body were held down. “Roseia look at me, calm down before you hurt yourself” he said with his amber fox eyes glowing. After this I felt sleepy so I let the darkness claim me.
Shin-ju left to bring to Snail Bride to the apartment and also to get something from the old hag help with the energy overload. He came back with the Snail Bride who explained she had placed some healing herbs in our food and she didn’t realise Roseia would have an extreme reaction to it. After this Shin-ju placed a necklace around Roseia’s neck that would turn her into a human while locking her powers and fox form away for her safety.
Roseia
While I was sleeping I received a message from mum saying she had given Shin-ju my lost necklace with added protection for curses. My energy levels were too high for my body to handle, so she had asked upper management to turn me into a human. Everyone else was going to think the necklace kept me in my human form and it was told this way to keep the knowledge of the relationship I had with mum and dad. Taluipa wasn’t allowed to show her soft side even if I was her favourite child, this is why I call her mum and her husband dad in private.
I woke up feeling too hot and the world started spinning if I dared to sit up, “Roseia you have a fever of 42˚C so I have hooked you up to an IV. We need to reduce your fever or you will need to go the hospital as this getting beyond my skills” Shin-ju told me. A little while later I caught myself falling in a deep sleep, which felt different and rather than fight it I accepted it.
Yeon was sitting with Roseia when her eyes rolled back into her head and she stopped breathing. he checked her pulse while yelling for Shin-ju who was in the living room. He came running and started doing CPR, he was able to get her breathing again. “Yeon call 119, she needs the hospital now” Shin-ju instructed Yeon. Ten minutes later Yeon was riding in the ambulance on the way to the hospital with Roseia beside him.
